Transportation

Hello Everyone,

Most economic activities that happen around us in the world affect every individual in one way or the other directly or indirectly. Transportation is an activity that affects everyone whichever mode (walk, bicycle, motor cycle, car, bus and any other) one uses to fulfill the travel needs whether it is intra-regional or inter-regional irrespective of the region's (town, city, district, state or any other) size.

I had had the opportunity to work in the transport sector for over three decades as an analyst in its various sub-sectors dealing with rural roads, highways, urban transport, metro, rail and ports. Over two decades of which as an independent consultant.

There is lot to learn and understand to assess the dynamic expectations of people regarding transportation facilities, including rolling stock (e.g., vehicles and coaches) and infrastructure (e.g. road and rail), however much effective such facilities are planned, developed and provided, thus far.

Continuous efforts are being made to improve the safety and comfort of transport users, passengers and drivers, through technology enhancements in the rolling stock. The enhancements in automobiles, for example, include among others such as powered steering, improved breaking system, turn and position signals, seat belts air bags and others.  The capacity augmentation is also being undertaken on a continuous basis to meet the ever increasing transport demand and address the needs of all modes of transport either road or rail based (metro, regional rapid transit and high speed trains). Further new concepts such as Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Systems are also being developed in many regions to enhance the transportation system. However there would still be a requirement to develop fresh ideas and concepts to address the travel demand and the resultant infrastructure requirement, especially, in the regions with high population levels and limited availability of land.

The purpose of this blog is to share ideas and concepts which could enhance the efficacy of the transportation sector.  It is hoped that sharing in public domain results in enhancing the functionality of the concepts through discussion and by undertaking detailed studies, if found appropriate for such an exercise, by interested parties (individuals and institutions or private and public entities) and examine the feasibility for implementation.
